TWO PIECE WHITE NUBBY COTTON NORFOLK STYLED WALKING SUIT WITH BELTED JACKET
Edwardian era two piece nubby cotton Norfolk styled walking suit. Belted jacket with princess seaming. Jacket has puff at sleeve cap, separate belt, middy collar, turn back split cuffs and cotton broadcloth lining. Suit is trimmed with black and ivory layered celluloid buttons with metal shank. A-line full length skirt with asymmetric pleat and button trim. Extraordinary man tailored suit for the independent modern woman of the 1910s.
Approximate Measurements:
Jacket
Bust - 36"
Shoulder, measured from seam to seam - 15"
Sleeve, measured from seam to cuff edge - 23"
Length, measured from collar fold to hem edge - 29"
Skirt
Waist - 28"
Hip - 42"
Length, measured from top edge to hem edge - 36 1/2"
Hem - 6"
Condition:
VERY GOOD. Heavy nubby cotton is strong and totally wearable. There is general age discoloration/yellowing throughout and at the 2nd button hole on the jacket and top button on skirt. Shows a repair behind left side seam at pleat and some minor soil along hem. We deem these issues to be minor, considering the age of the garment and furthermore, much of it is lost visibly in the texture of the fabric. The original waist facing has been replaced by a new cotton twill facing that is placed over the top of and has hidden the old facing, obviously in a restoration effort to make the skirt more wearable.
