GOLDEN OLIVE WOOL COCOON COAT - M. E. SMITH & CO. (Mary E. Smith Hayward Suffragette)
Late 1910's / early 1920's wool cut-away cocoon coat. Golden olive with white damask woven diagonal stripe fleecy wool. Faux button tab collar. Asymmetrical button closure. Substantial bound button holes of contrasting solid olive-gold wool, also used as a wide facing fabric compliment. Large (1 3/4" diameter) two piece faux tortoise shell celluloid and mother-of-pearl buttons on metal backing and shank. Attached self band below hip ends with vertical tabs at back. Sleeves are pleated into top stitched faux turn-back cuffs. Cut-away center front at hem. A cocoon classic!

Note:
Mary E. Smith Hayward was a fashion pioneer moving west from Pennsylvania in the late 1800's to become a successful and well respected business woman in Chadron, Dawes County Nebraska. She was also an early activist and noted member of the suffrage movement.

Condition:
EXCELLENT condition. Some light wear and an occasional chew, but overall in remarkable condition.
