1912 VINTAGE SILK & LACE GOWN, HALF SLIP, LACE OPERA LENGTH MITTS AND VINTAGE GARMENT BAG - TITANIC PRODUCTION RENTAL
All original 1910's pink silk & ecru lace tea gown and matching petticoat from JAMES CAMERON'S TITANIC. Elaborate art nouveau and wisteria pattern ecru embroidered net lace overlay bodice capelet and sleeves. Crystal bead loop fringe & rosette drops at capelet back points. Pink silk chiffon neckline drape with large rosette, cummerbund & large bow back. Pink silk V neck under-bodice with half sleeves. Ecru tulle bodice lining. Embroidered lace 3/4 overlay skirt with separate panel back. Full length pink silk skirt with train. Draped skirt back with large rosette. Center back snap closure. Pink silk half petticoat with ecru lace flounce with rosette trim. Gown typifies the elegance and opulence of the era.
Included with the gown and petticoat are pink lace mitts and cotton print garment bag which were gifts of the production. Mitts were an amazing find by the production and a good match for the gown. Garment bag was a smart acquisition to protect the gown from damaging elements during the production. (Mitts were marked with small "T" during production. Garment bag is marked with production label.)
In 1996 we were privileged to contribute wardrobe to the Fox/Paramount production of James Cameron's TITANIC. It is without a doubt, one of the most exciting projects we have ever been associated with. This gown was selected personally by the costume designer as a significant piece and intended to be used on camera in foreground or for principal. Garment was used exclusively on rental to motion picture TITANIC, never made available after that production.
It has been in our private collection since that time. The gown has been archivally & painstakingly stored for safekeeping. This is the first time it is being offered for public consideration.
Included with the purchase is a copy of the original Titanic rental inventory between the production and Repeat Performance, documenting specifically item #RP795-146, the inventory number of the gown.
Label:
RP795-164G
Approximate measurements:
Bust - 34"+
Waist - 24"
Hip - 36"
Skirt length measured from waist to hem edge - 44"
Condition:
Considering it was used in a film production and the period of the gown, it is in EXCELLENT condition. However, it does have general wear issues. Gown shows a few small holes and small professional repairs. A few small soil marks at skirt lace tier, one larger faint mark back tier and light soil at hem. Half slip shows small tears, all easily repaired. Mitts in excellent condition. Gown is completely wearable, with some minor professional restoration.
