Bonnie Cashin:
One of the great American designers of the 20th century, uninfluenced by Paris and yet her designs are still relevant today! 1953 joins Sills and Co. to design an experimental collection of leather separates. Collection is so starkly modern that The New York Times likens the models to "ladies from Mars". In 1962, Bonnie Cashin was hired by the then new line of leather handbags, COACH, working there until 1974. She was skilled at mixing fabrics and worked frequently with canvas, leather, poplin, suede and tweeds, and many have credited her with being the first designer to layer using the Japanese kimono as her inspiration. She worked in 1940's Hollywood as a costume designer... she designed the marvelous costumes for Gene Tierney in LAURA. Received Coty's Hall of Fame Award in 1972.
