JAMES CAMERON'S TITANIC:
In 1996 we were privileged to contribute wardrobe to the Fox/Paramount production of James Cameron's TITANIC. It is without a doubt, one of the most exciting projects we have ever been associated with. At the end of the enormous production there were naturally pieces that went missing. This gown was one of the pieces traded to us, from the production, as a replacement. All important garments that were purchased by the costume department had TITANIC production labels applied (see photo). There was a conscientious effort made by the costume designer to purchase authentic period pieces, restore them if necessary and protect them during production. They were stored in the safety of individual boxes and only brought out when a scene required them. This gown has been in our private collection since that time. It has been painstakingly stored for safekeeping. This is the first time it is being offered for public consideration.
Label:
TITANIC
("TITANTIC" sic. The original custom labels purchased by the costume department were mis-spelled with the extra T. Later on during the production the error was corrected. They were the same style labels.)
Also included:
The Titanic production storage box, as noted above, is also included with the purchase. Attached to the storage box is a Polaroid snapshot of the dress taken by the costume department for identification purposes. Box shows some wear from general use during the production.
Approximate Measurements:
Bust measured underarm to underarm - 35-36"
Sleeve measured from seam to hem edge - 16"
Shoulder measured across back yoke - 15"
Bodice length measured from neck seam to waist - 15"
Waist - 29"
Hip - 38-40"
Skirt length measured center back from waist to hem edge - 42"
Dress length measured from back neck seam to hem edge - 57"
Condition:
Considering its use in a film production and the early period of the gown it is in very good condition, however, it does have issues. Shows soil, age discolor & wear inside neckline and at neck edge. Shows minor wear & tear generally and at a few bodice seams. Lining under sleeve shows disintegration (unseen). We understand the taffeta lining was copied and professionally restored using the original as a pattern. Gown is wearable.
